On Sunday, March 9, 2014 Shaare Zedek Congregation hosted an event of religious leaders who spoke against Bill 60, the proposed law that would take away some of our religious freedoms that we presently enjoy.
Six of the world’s religions were represented, 10 speakers all told, moderated by Anthony Housefather, Mayor of Cote St. Luc and the Liberal candidate replacing the retired Lawrence Bergman. Our very own Rabbi Bright was one of the distinguished speakers, who had the difficult task of being the last speaker but was by far one of the best speakers of the day.
We had over 320 people in attendance from all walks of life, coverage from CBC, Global TV, CTV and articles written up in the Gazette, The Canadian Jewish News and The Suburban. What PR for our synagogue!
Everything about this event was extremely positive and we should all be proud that Shaare Zedek agreed to be the host location. Yasher Koach to Rabbi Bright and to the wonderful support from our office and caretaking staff, Nelly, Paula, Susie, Susan and Roberto. We can only hope that the wisdom of the words of our speakers will be listened to.
Please watch the video recap of this wonderful event.
